When it comes to FMCG,Telecom it is easy to use words like brand equity, brand loyalty well while going through the budget today i realised something Do political parties require an Marketing expert??
Lets face it most of them try to appeal to the heart {Value by Heart},and most of them do influence our actions!! Is it just the coincidence that Congress it instantly recognised as common man's dysnastic party and BJP as the pro Hindu Party ??But what happens when this strong positioning in peoples mind ets diluted BJP is facing a brand image crisis from past two years the strong positioning of the party as a pro Hindu party is diluted.
I feel that the image of congress is in serious trouble after the recent corruption allegations and am of the opinion that this will hurt them like it hurts and other FMCG company by reducing sales {or votes} incase of political parties. All in all i feel parties need a Full time CMO to manage these things What is your opinion?
Well, first of all i must say that this article was one the few articles that i liked very much. I really appreciate your application of marketing concepts in the political context.
ReplyDeleteComing to your pt. whether theres a need of CMO, i'd like to say that a CMO will definitely make a difference as this political market is turning oligopolistic(emergence of other regional parties) from duopoly(BJP congress).
But in the political scenario, what matters more is:
1 The amount of money a politician has stacked than the no. of brands a CMO has built.
2 The no. of govt. officials under in a politicians pocket than no. of employees under a CMO.
3 The no. of parties a politicians has hopped than no. of jobs hopped by a CMO.
4 Well... there are a many more points that make me think strongly that a CMO wont be much effective, unless he is a politician himself..
